- “We must reject not only the stereotypes that others hold of us, but also the stereotypes that we hold of ourselves”
Been a long time guys, I’ve been a bit busy but i’m here now (okay those are just my excuses for being lazy, i’ve been procrastinating). So lately i’ve been doing some thinking and i decided to point out one of the major things i believe in that has been questioned a lot.
HAVING NEGATIVE VIEWS OF MEN
Gender stereotypes are one of the things Feminism aims to combat. So the general term “Men are trash” is one of the many things it doesn’t stand for.
Everyone is entitled to rights and privileges but what one or two or a thousand people do with their privileges doesn’t determine what that gender stands for.
Whoever misuses their privileges should be called out and individually reprimanded not as an added tag to the gender but as a question of character.
A world of equality is what a feminist should aim at without putting the male gender down.
WOMEN ARE SUPERIOR
“What a man can do, a woman can do better”
This is not what Feminism stands for literally. It has often been misunderstood for trying to point out that the female gender is more superior.
Prone to being at a greater risk of sexual abuse, and being denied basic human rights are some of the issues arising due to being female. These are issues that are mostly limiting factors to a female.
Being a feminist doesn’t mean you think a woman is basically greater than a man but that a woman can equally be as good as man.
“What a man can do, a woman can do TOO”
“I DON’T LIKE THIS DRINK BECAUSE IT’S A WOMAN’S DRINK or “I DON’T LIKE THIS COLOUR BECAUSE IT’S A WOMAN’S COLOUR”
You should be able to like things without it having anything to do with your gender/identity
FACT: Most times, things considered associated with “being female” have been devalued due to this association, which shouldn’t be.
Drinks, colours and so many examples have absolutely nothing to do with being female. Because a certain percentage of a gender likes a thing doesn’t mean it is meant for that gender.
I have so much to say but i choose to leave with a few of my honest opinions on what Feminism doesn’t stand for. It all points down to the fact that it stands for equality. It’s alright not to agree with me because we learn everyday certainly. In this present time, one shouldn’t be judged on major issues due to you being female or male but more like your personality should be judged instead.Feminism is more like a verb, so turn all your nouns into verbs. Gender is not a judge of character. Feel free to add your honest opinions like i did below and also comment.
“I raise up my voice, not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard… We cannot succeed when half of us are held back”
